Gulf Malayalee Organization launched first of its kind Charitable Kidney Dialysis Center in Kerala
CALICUT Kerala, July 23, 2006 – Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association (KKMA) and IQRAA Intrernational Hospital and Research Center have jointly announced the launch of first of its kind charitable venture KKMA Kidney Dialysis Center (KDC) in Calicut city of Kerala State.
The Kidney Dialysis Center, which is a joint venture between Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association, a Kuwait based social welfare organization of Indian nationals and IQRAA International Hospital and Research Center in Kerala was inaugurated on Sunday, 16th July 2006 by P.K. Shrimathi Teacher, the honourable minister for health and social affairs at Kerala State.
"It is a commendable move from Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association and IQRAA and their decision to establish a Kidney Dialysis Center to provide subsidised haemodialysis treatment to needy patients is to be appreciated and encouraged", said Shrimathi Teacher, inaugurating the event.
Sheikh Mubarak Salman Al Mohamad Al Sabah, a member of ruling family in Kuwait attended the event as chief guest. Sheikh Mubarak traveled to Kerala at the invitation of KKMA to attend the function. He expressed his happiness for being in India for the first time to attend this noble event and lauded centuries old Kuwait India relation.
The KKMA KDC is equipped with three modern state-of-the art dialysis units which is capable of approximately 100 dialysis patient in a month.
Renal Dialysis is the process of filtering and removing toxic waste products from the blood when the kidneys malfunction or fail. Patients typically receive dialysis treatment three times-a-week, each session lasting an average of 3 to 5 hours. The KDC Calicut is a part of KKMA's visionary project to have one KDC in every district of Kerala State, India.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Kuwait during the month of April this year between Sageer Trikarpur, Chairman of KKMA Charitable Trust and Dr. P.C. Anwar, the executive Director of IQRAA. According to MOU, the entire project cost will be borne by KKMA and the technical know how and operational support will be provided by the IQRAA Hospital. A joint Management Supervisory Committee will look after the day to day administration of the Center.
"It is a 'zero' profit motivated project which is a model to follow wherein a social organization partnership with professional service providers for implementing social development projects for the benefit of society at large", said Sageer Trikarpur, the chairman of KKMA Trust. The entire project cost of Calicut unit, IRs. 2.5 Million is spent by KKMA raised from its members and well wishers. The cost of treatment at the Center will be at the cost and below market rate. Yet, KKMA shall raise a patient fund to provide free or subsidized treatment for the needy poor.
Dr. PC Anwar on his part mentioned that the IQRAA Hospital, as itself is a charitable venture of JDT Orphanage Committee and the partnership with KKMA will provide further opportunity to extend services to kidney failure patients through quality dialysis treatment and care of international standards. IQRAA is entrusted with providing technical and operating support including of medical and paramedical staff required to run the center in a professional way.
The inaugural meeting was presided by C.P. Kunhi Mohamed president of IQRAA International Hospital and Research Center. Earlier, K.P. Kunhimoosa, KKMA coordinator in India welcomed the hundreds of attendees mainly KKMA members and well wishers.

KDC Calicut
The first of its kind Center has been open in Calicut in the month of July 2006 in association with IQRAA International Hospital and Research Center.
KDC Trichur
A second center started functioning at Daya General Hospital in Trichur in the month of August 2007.
KDC Malappuram
The third of its kind Center has been open in Malappuram in association with Nadakkavil Hospital - Valanchery.
KDC Kankanady
The fourth of its kind Center has been open in Mangalore in association with Highlan Hospital - Kankanady.
KDC Kasaragod
The fifth of its kind Center has been open in Kasaragod in association with Care Well Hospital - Nullipady.
KDC Trivandrum
The sixth of its kind Center has been open in Trivandrum in association with Al Arif Hospital - Ambalathara.
KDC Kannur
The seventh of its kind Center has been open in Kannur in association with MM Hospital - Pappnisseri.
KDC Kottayam
The eighth of its kind Center has been open in Kottayam in association with Paret Mar Ivanios Hospital - Kottayam.
KDC Mangalore
The ninth of its kind Center has been open in Mangalore in association with St. Father Muller Hospital - Kankanady.
KDC Wayanad
The tenth of its kind Center has been open in Wayanad in association with MES Hospital - Wayanad.
KDC Kundapur
The eleventh of its kind Center has been open in Karnataka in association with Vinaya Hospital - Kundapur.
KDC Alappuzha
The twelfth of its kind Center has been open in Alappuzha in association with Al Huda Hospital - Haripad.
EDC Kannur
In 2015 KKMA has initiated establishment of an Early Detection Center in Kerala and by the grace of Almighty Allah, we have opened the first EDC in the city of Kannur in August 2016.
